Campus for Finance - New Year's Conference 2011 was a great success in all respects. Keynote Speakers of this year's conference were among others the Federal Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble, the president of the German Central Bank Axel Weber and Nobel laureate Professor Reinhard Selten. Furthermore, 2000 participants had applied for this year's event. Over 250 student have been selected to discuss in panels, workshops and speeches with the leaders from the financial world the topic "Financial vs. Real Economy - Two Sides of the Same Coin?". The starting point was the financial crisis. The speakers stressed on the conference, that the threat of a new crisis despite of positive forecasts has not been dispelled.
The highlights of the conference were the interesting speeches, in which the speakers emphasized the importance of not underestimating the crisis. Axel Weber compared the crisis with a chameleon, which changes its color every year. Wolfgang Schäuble, the Federal Finance Minister stated despite the positive economic signals "we are not swimming in money, but are drowning in debt." He compared the crisis to the fall of the Berlin Wall, which had a huge impact on lives of thousands of people.
The topic was highlighted from all standpoints: Economists, politicians and managers brought different point of views to the conference and left enough space to discuss their thesis with the students.
Due to the mutual interest in dealing with challenges within the financial and real economy, the participants could experience a special atmosphere, which has connected the participants from all over the world.
Finally we would like to thank our sponsors, speakers, participants and supporter, who made the event possible and we look forword to welcome everyone to the Campus for Finance - New Year' Conference next year!
